About the teacher:
Matthew Sweeney has been practicing Yoga for more than 30 years, and teaching for 25 years. He has developed a number of Vinyasa Sequences – called Vinyasa Krama – to suit people of any age and ability. Although this method is movement based, it is easily applied for students as Yoga-therapy – individual application without losing your adventurous spirit. VK will enhance your well-being with the prospect of continuing to practice decades into the future with real harmony and joy.
Matthew has also spent the last 30 years practicing different forms of self-inquiry; including Meditation, Tantra, Gestalt Therapy, Transforming Cellular Memory, Buddhism, and Advaita Vedanta. All of these have contributed greatly to his understanding of Yoga and the connection between the body, mind, and Indivisible Self.
Matthew is the author of Vinyasa Krama Mandiram, Ashtanga Yoga As It Is, various Yoga DVDs, and many articles on Yoga and consciousness.
Weekend program :
FRIDAY NIGHT (530-830pm)
THE MOON SEQUENCE
The Moon Sequence is a gentle flowing form that combines yin yoga with vinyasa. Chandra Krama was originally designed as a counterbalance to dynamic practices such as the Primary Series. Although it is intended as a support practice versus your main sequence, it also helps practitioners to balance all aspects of Yoga by applying some key universal principles: here and now awareness, letting go, balancing Rajas and Tamas to become Sattva, meditation, and a therapeutic and individual approach. Chandra Krama is intended to be gentle, flowing, light, and graceful. Come along to experience it for yourself!
SATURDAY MORNING (8:30-11:30am)
THE SUNSHINE SEQUENCE
Although originally modelled off the Primary Series, Atapa Krama has a few significant differences: a scaled and individual approach so students of almost any ability can apply what is appropriate for themselves. Secondly, there are a number of variations in standing postures (versus the same set sequence every time), a more balanced approach to forward bends, balanced hip opening, and scaled back bends, gradually increased over time. Atapa Krama is balanced, dynamic, strengthening, and accessible.
SATURDAY AFTERNOON (1:30- 4:30pm)
BACK-BENDING and the STAGES FOR DROP BACKS
Taught in a step-by-step manner, these techniques have been developed over many years. Students who have fear of back-bending, or pain of various levels can find ease and structure to help support their way into back-bending harmony. Includes Uddiyana Bandha, and final discussion of Mula Bandha at the end of the class. Use of props, blocks, and wall space is recommended, plus plenty of time for Q and A and troubleshooting.
SUNDAY MORNING ( 8:30-11:30am)
THE LION SEQUENCE
Simha Krama is also one of the four foundation sequences that Matthew teaches. It includes a whole range of standing postures designed to improve alignment and proprioception – a lot of work on the side body. The sequence incudes leg strengthening postures, shoulder opening postures, and a range of backbends designed to improve your overall practice. Simha Krama has great variety; it is challenging, opening, and fun. Come prepared to roar like a Lion, don’t be shy!
SUNDAY AFTERNOON (1:30-4:30pm)
VINYASA KRAMA PRANAYAMA
Beginning with a general discussion on Pranayama, some of the pros and cons of modern traditions, and where VK Pranayama is generally superior. Then the group will be taken through a set of four Pranayama in sequence, and then from memory practice all four via a 30 min self-practice routine. Great for students needing to start – or re-start and reinvigorate their Pranayama practice.

Reviews

I had two times Shiatsu treatment given by Danka. I tried many things to feel more alive, having more energy, and releasing a tense body. I was surprised how Dankas treatment affected my body. After 90 minutes – Energy was flowing through my body, I felt calm, content and had to laugh loudly – impulsively. A body reaction I never had before. I am happy that Shiatsu with Danka works with me so well! I totally recommend it. Danka has a lot of experience, she lives what she teaches & gives. Thank you! Wonderful work!

I regularly receive shiatsu by Danka and it is always wonderful! It helps me to deal better with painful periods and back stiffness. After a shiatsu session I feel refreshed, relaxed, balanced and more grounded. Danka knows a lot about TCM, Yoga, shiatsu and body work in general. She looks at your body in its entirety. I can recommand it to everyone who is looking for a shiatsu therapist with a lot of experience and empathy!

Danka’s shiatsu session is a treatment for the body, mind, and soul.

She supports the physical and emotional body in his healing process. While moving the body from the outside, she intuitively feels what is going on in the emotional body and supports its healing too. Energy blockages and tension are going to be released.

Her Shiatsu session leads to inner and outer balance. Danka’s background as a yoga teacher is a huge benefit. Her shiatsu session is a unique combination influenced by her background as a yoga teacher and Tao shiatsu practitioner. In my experience, her therapeutic shiatsu massage is more powerful than a classical shiatsu treatment!
